Women's Golf completes Day One action at Surratt Memorial

Monroe, N.C. – The Catawba College Women's Golf team was in action on day one of the Jerry Surratt Memorial Intercollegiate on Monday, finishing the first two rounds at the Stonebridge Golf Club in 11th place with an overall score of +58, 634 

 

HOW IT HAPPENED 

  • Chloe Crane paced the Catawba side on day one, finishing the first two rounds of play T-26th with a +9, 153 ledger. Crane began the day with a strong front-nine in the first round, shooting even with two birdies and just two bogeys, but struggled over the back-nine to post a +7, 79. She would regain her form in the second round, notching a birdie and 14 pars with just three bogeys for an excellent +2, 74 showing to climb the leaderboard 

  • Emily Wellspeak would finish the first day T-34th with a score of +10, 154. She began the day with some excellent golf of her own, shooting a +2, 74 in round one thanks to three bogeys and 10 pars, including an even front-nine. However, Wellspeak would hit a rough patch in the second round, posting 13 pars but also suffering a couple of double bogeys for a +8, 80  

  • Abbie Daquila ended round two T-62nd with an overall score of +18, 162. Daquila would begin the day with a solid +3, 39 over the front-nine of the first round, but similar to Wellspeak would drop a bit due to double bogeys for a +10, 82 score. She opened the second round a little shaky, but bounced back with her best golf of the day in the form of a +2, 38 over the back-nine for a +8, 80 mark 

  • Maddy Vogan would finish play on the day T-68th at +23, 167. Vogan began and ended action with a pair of +4, 40 frames as she finished round one +14, 86 and round two +9, 81 

  • Mary-Paige King ended Monday's action T-76th with a score of +26, 170 after a pair of +13, 85 outings. King's best golf came on the front-nine of the opening round, where she posted six pars for a +3, 39 effort 

 

NOTES 

  • Crane concluded the first two rounds T-2nd in Par 3's, with a score of -1 and an average of 2.88. Daquila wasn't too far behind, sitting T-4th at +1/3.13, with Vogan also T-5th at +2, 3.25 

  • Wellspeak's 23 pars tied her for 7th after two rounds  

  • Crane's four birdies saw her end the first day T-5th, with both Wellspeak and Daquila T-6th with three each
