
Women’s Basketball drops SAC home contest vs Anderson
Salisbury, N.C. —- The Catawba College women's basketball team was unable to hold a halftime lead, falling 77-67 to visiting Anderson University in South Atlantic Conference women's basketball action at Goodman Arena.
TEAM STATISTICS
- Anderson shot 29-for-53 (55 percent) from the field, while Catawba went 31-of-69 (45 percent) from the floor
- The Trojans were 6-of-11 (55 percent) from three-point range; the Catawba Indians shot 3-for-18 (17 percent) from long range
- AU was 13-for-15 (87 percent) from the free throw line; Catawba went 2-for-4 (50 percent) at the charity stripe
- Anderson out-rebounded Catawba 39-26; their 11 offensive rebounds helped them to a slight 12-10 margin in second-chance points
- The Trojans recorded 14 assists to 27 turnovers, while Catawba had 10 assists to 16 turnovers; Catawba led 23-14 in points off turnovers
- Catawba led 42-40 in points in the paint, but Anderson held advantages in fastbreak points (15-5) and bench points (17-13)
INDIVIDUAL LEADERS
- Janiya Foskey scored a team-high 20 points with seven rebounds
- Bailee Goodlett chipped in 14 points on 7-for-10 shooting with four assists
- Nala Baker added 13 points
- Kairah Dixon-Booker recorded seven points and three rebounds
HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST QUARTER
- A 7-0 Anderson run gave the Trojans an early 12-6 lead before the media timeout
- Jada Porter's three-pointer brought the Catawba Indians within one point at the 4:33 mark
- Catawba's 10 straight points helped bring their extended run to 15-2 to take a 21-14 lead after Baker's layup in the closing seconds
- Anderson's late basket cut their deficit to 21-16 after 10 minutes
SECOND QUARTER
- Diamond McDowell's layup pulled Anderson within a single point near the midway point
- The teams traded baskets the rest of the way; Dixon-Booker's late three-pointer gave the Catawba Indians a 36-35 lead at the half
THIRD QUARTER
- Catawba pushed their lead to five early in the second half on Foskey and Dixon-Booker baskets
- McDowell's three-pointer tied the game at 40 at the 7:46 mark
- Six straight points from the Catawba Indians allowed them to regain the lead near the midway point of the period
- Ashlyn Sheridan's three-pointer brought the Trojans back to a 48-47 deficit in a back-and-forth quarter
- McDowell's personal 5-0 run to end the third put Anderson ahead 57-52 with 10 minutes left
FOURTH QUARTER
- Two straight baskets on Foskey pulled Catawba within a point of the lead at the 7:51 mark
- Anderson answered with back-to-back scores to extend their lead to multiple possessions once again
- Foskey's basket with 1:49 to go cut Anderson's lead to four, but the Trojans hit their free throws down the stretch to earn the road victory
