Women’s Basketball falls at Limestone

Gaffney, S.C. —- The Catawba College women's basketball team was unable to extend their win streak to three games on Saturday, falling on the road to Limestone University in South Atlantic Conference women's basketball action.

 

TEAM STATISTICS

- Limestone shot 20-for-57 (35 percent) from the field, while Catawba went 22-of-67 (33 percent) from the floor

- The Saints were 4-for-18 (22 percent) from three-point range; Catawba was 2-of-14 (14 percent) from long range

- LU was 16-for-21 (76 percent) from the free throw line, while Catawba shot 9-of-13 (69 percent) from the charity stripe

- Both teams grabbed 44 rebounds; Catawba's 11 offensive rebounds allowed them to enjoy an 11-8 advantage in second-chance points

- Limestone recorded nine assists to 13 turnovers, while Catawba had five assists to eight turnovers; the Catawba Indians held a 15-5 lead in points off turnovers

- Catawba led in points in the paint (30-28) and bench points (21-2); Limestone led 17-12 in fastbreak points

 

INDIVIDUAL LEADERS

- Mary Spry scored a team-high 14 points with seven rebounds and two blocks

- Bailee Goodlett added 12 points with five boards and two steals

- Janiya Foskey was the third Catawba Indian to reach double figures with 10 points and six rebounds

- Nala Baker chipped in seven points and six rebounds

 

HOW IT HAPPENED

FIRST QUARTER

- The teams remained close for much of the first five minutes, but Catawba went on an 8-0 run to lead by that margin at the 2:20 mark

- Catawba led by eight after 10 minutes, 18-10

 

SECOND QUARTER

- Catawba's lead grew to 12 points in the opening minute of the second quarter off Spry's jumper

- Limestone responded with a 6-0 run to force a Catawba timeout with the visitors still leading 22-16

- The Saints drew within a basket near the four-minute mark, extending their run to 12-2

- Catawba punched back, scoring the half's final six points to take a 32-24 lead into the halftime locker room

 

THIRD QUARTER

- The Saints scored the first five points in the second half, pulling back within a single possession in the opening 70 seconds

- Limestone took the lead for the first time since leading 4-3 in the opening quarter on Kalisha Hill's layup, taking a 37-36 lead at the 3:12 mark

- Baker canned a triple in the closing seconds of the third quarter to swing the lead back in Catawba's favor, with the Catawba Indians up 43-41 heading into the final period

 

FOURTH QUARTER

- The Saints took back the lead early in the fourth, scoring the period's first five points to take a 46-43 lead

- Goodlett connected on back-to-back baskets to take the lead back before the media timeout

- Reagan Kargo's three-pointer with 3:11 to go gave the Saints the lead for good; Catawba missed a stretch of seven consecutive field goal attempts as Limestone connected from the foul line to grow their lead and eventually ice the game at the charity stripe
