PREVIEW: Women’s Basketball takes home court vs. Johnson C. Smith

Salisbury, N.C. —- The Catawba College women's basketball team makes their home debut for the 2024-25 season, hosting Johnson C. Smith at Goodman Arena in non-conference action Wednesday evening.

- Johnson C. Smith leads the all-time series 6-2

- The Catawba Indians are 2-5 against the Golden Bulls in Goodman Arena

- Johnson C. Smith took the last matchup, 52-51, over Catawba in December 2017

 

OPENING WEEKEND SPLIT

- The Catawba Indians split a pair of games over opening weekend at the Jersey Mike's Regional Challenge hosted at Tusculum University

- 24th-ranked Columbus State topped Catawba 90-70 in game one before the Catawba Indians bounced back with a 92-65 win over Lees-McRae

- Four Catawba Indians averaged double digits in scoring over the two games with Janiya Foskey and Saniya Wilson both scoring 21 points through the opening weekend

 

KAIRAH DOUBLE-DIXON

- Kairah Dixon-Booker pulled down 12 rebounds in both contests over the opening weekend

- The sophomore currently ranks second in the conference in rebounding through the opening weekend

- The Camden, S.C. native recorded her first collegiate double-double on Sunday, posting 12 points and 12 rebounds in the win over Lees-McRae

 

SLIDING A SEAT DOWN ON THE BENCH

- After 63 games inside Goodman Arena donning the Catawba jersey, Sara McIntosh will take the bench for the first time as Assistant Coach on Wednesday

- The two-time All-South Atlantic Conference forward is tasked with helping lead a group that graduated nearly 57 percent of their scoring from a season ago

- Catawba will also be tasked with starting from scratch on their home winning streak, which was snapped in the Southeast Regional semifinal after a nation-leading 34 wins in a row on the Goodman Arena floor

 

SCOUTING THE GOLDEN BULLS

- Johnson C. Smith's women were picked fifth in the preseason CIAA poll

- Betsy Burnett dropped 30 points in their most recent game vs. Edward Waters

- The Golden Bulls shot 42 free throws in their win
