PREVIEW: Softball looks to stay hot in key SAC DH vs Anderson

Salisbury, N.C. —- The Catawba College softball team faces a pivotal doubleheader in the race for the South Atlantic Conference Tournament on Wednesday when it welcomes Anderson to Whitley Field for a pair of games against the Trojans at 2 and 4 p.m.

- Who: Anderson (23-19, 8-10 SAC) at Catawba (18-20, 8-10 SAC)

- Where: Whitley Field, Salisbury, N.C.

THE HISTORY

- Catawba leads all-time series 18-17

- The Catawba Indians lead the series at Whitley Field 8-6

- The Trojans enter the doubleheader on a three-game win streak

 

THE STAKES

- The doubleheader marks an important one in the race for the eight seed in the SAC Tournament

- Anderson, Catawba and Emory & Henry currently stand in a three-way tie for eighth with an 8-10 record in league play

- Catawba still has Coker and UVA Wise (combined 9-27 in SAC play) left to go on their schedule after Wednesday

 

A NEW DOUBLES QUEEN

- On the same swing at Carson-Newman on Tuesday, Kary Hales became the program's single-season and the career doubles leader

- Hales added another double on Saturday, her 19th of the season, which leads the country in the category

- Hales is also in the chase for the program hits record, currently held by interim head coach Allie Lyerly; Hales' 225 career hits stands second behind then-Marshall's 237

 

BREE BOMBS

- Also in the race for a statistical crown in the SAC is Brianna Gallagher, who currently stands in a tie for first with 15 home runs this season

- The mark has also tied the program single-season record, also held by Lyerly

- Hales and Gallagher are 1-2 in the SAC with a .481 and .480 batting average, respectively, while both leading the league in an extra-base hit variety
