
Softball sweeps Augusta for first wins of 2025 season
Augusta, Ga. —- The Catawba College softball team earned two wins on the road against the Augusta Jaguars on Sunday for the Catawba Indians' first two wins of the 2025 season.
GAME ONE | Catawba 9, Augusta 3
TEAM STATISTICS
- Catawba out-hit Augusta 11-4
- Both teams had two extra-base hits; the Jaguars recorded the lone homer
- Augusta committed five of six errors in the contest
- The Jaguars left three runners on base, while the Catawba Indians stranded six
- Both teams recorded two stolen bases
INDIVIDUAL LEADERS
- Christina Brendle was 2-for-3 with a triple, two RBI and a run scored
- Grace Flynn had a 2-for-4 games with a stolen base and two runs scored
- Courtnee Carter also recorded two hits with two runs scored
- Alex Baquie went the distance for the win in the circle, allowing three runs on four hits and two walks with seven strikeouts
HOW IT HAPPENED
SECOND INNING
- Molly Strider's double put runners on second and third with one out in the second
- Brendle drove home both runners on a two-run triple to right field
- Augusta got a run back in the bottom half on a double steal
THIRD INNING
- The Jags took the lead in the third inning following Bailee Roberts' two-run homer
FOURTH INNING
- Strider was hit by a pitch and Brendle singled to start the fourth inning
- A throwing error scored Strider before another Augusta throwing error scored two more Catawba Indian runners as the visitors took a 5-3 lead
- A third throwing error in the inning scored another run before Kary Hales' RBI sac fly scored Catawba's fifth run of the frame to lead 7-3
SIXTH INNING
- Flynn and Carter singled to start a one-out rally in the sixth
- Gallagher drove in a run on a single back up the middle before Hales added another RBI sac fly to pad the lead 9-3

TEAM STATISTICS
- Catawba out-hit Augusta 11-4
- The Catawba Indians had five of seven extra-base hits in game two
- Catawba recorded both errors in the game
- The Catawba Indians left six runners on base, while AU stranded six

- Augusta's pitchers allowed seven earned runs on 11 hits and three walks, striking out three, while Catawba's staff allowed six earned runs on 10 hits and four walks, striking out three
INDIVIDUAL LEADERS
- Maddy Altiers went 3-for-3 with her first Catawba homer and two runs scored
- Micaela Hartman was 2-for-2 with a home run of her own and two RBI
- Kinsley Caldwell drove in two on a double and scored
- Kenzie Church hit her first collegiate home run in her first at-bat of the day
- Keira Bell earned her first collegiate win in the circle, allowing two runs in four innings of work, striking out three
- Kate Holland picked up the four-out save, her first of her collegiate career
HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST INNING
- Augusta struck first, scoring a run on a two-out RBI single
SECOND INNING
- Altiers answered right back with a leadoff homer in the second
THIRD INNING
- Two hit-by-pitches allowed Strider's two-out single to score a run
- Caldwell's double to left center scored two more, as Catawba led 4-1
- Hartman kept the chain moving with an RBI double down the right field line to push the lead to four runs
- Augusta hustled home after a sac bunt to get a run back in the bottom half
FOURTH INNING
- Church launched a solo homer to return the lead to 6-2
FIFTH INNING
- The Jaguars got a run back in the fifth off an RBI double, pulling back within three runs
SIXTH INNING
- Hartman added a leadoff homer for much-need insurance in the sixth
- Augusta's Bobbi Poff hit a three-run homer to pull the Jags to 7-6
- Holland entered the game and immediately earned the third out
SEVENTH INNING
- Augusta walked and singled to get the winning run aboard in the seventh, but Holland closed the door to earn the Catawba Indian sweep
GAME NOTES
- First career wins for Interim Head Coach Allie Lyerly
- First career Catawba home runs for Altiers, Hartman and Church
- Brings total to four Catawba newcomers with a homer on the weekend
