Softball swept by LMU in Sunday twinbill

Harrogate, Tenn. —- The Catawba College softball team made the trek west to Lincoln Memorial University on Sunday afternoon, but was unable to pick up a win in the South Atlantic Conference doubleheader.

 

GAME ONE | Lincoln Memorial 10, Catawba 2 - 6 innings

TEAM STATISTICS

- Lincoln Memorial out-hit Catawba 14-5

- The Railsplitters recorded four of five extra-base hits

- The Catawba Indians committed the lone error of the contest

- LMU had the lone stolen base in game one

- Lincoln Memorial's Margot van Eijl allowed two earned runs on five hits and one walk, striking out five; Catawba's staff allowed nine earned runs on 14 hits and seven walks, striking out two

 

INDIVIDUAL LEADERS

- Riley Tucker went 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored

- Kary Hales and Bri Gallagher both drove in a run

 

HOW IT HAPPENED

FIRST INNING

- LMU got on the board in the bottom of the first on an RBI single

 

THIRD INNING

- The 'Splitters added three runs in the third to take a 4-0 lead

 

FOURTH INNING

- A leadoff double and an RBI single made it 5-0 LMU

 

SIXTH INNING

- Savanna Balderston singled to lead off the sixth

- Hales' RBI single got the Catawba Indians on the board

- Gallagher followed up with another RBI base knock to score Tucker and pull within 5-2

- LMU scored five in the bottom of the sixth to take the mercy-rule victory

 

GAME TWO | Lincoln Memorial 9, Catawba 3

TEAM STATISTICS

- Both teams recorded 10 hits

- LMU recorded five of seven extra-base hits; Catawba hit the lone homer

- The Railsplitters committed the lone error

- LMU's Victoria Conley allowed three runs on 10 hits and one walk; Catawba's staff allowed nine earned runs on 10 hits and five walks, striking out three

 

INDIVIDUAL LEADERS

- Grace Flynn went 3-for-4 with a run scored

- Hales hit a two-run homer

- Bri Herring recorded a hit and scored; Gallagher drove home another run

 

HOW IT HAPPENED

FIRST INNING

- Lincoln Memorial scored six in the bottom of the first to take an early lead

 

THIRD INNING

- With runners on second and third with one out, Hales drove home a run on a sac fly

- Gallagher's two-out RBI singled cut LMU's lead to four

 

FOURTH INNING

- A two-RBI double in the fourth returned LMU's lead to six runs

 

FIFTH INNING

- Hales belted a two-out homer in the fifth, her fourth in the last five games

- The Railsplitters answered with an RBI double in the bottom half

 

UP NEXT

- Catawba returns to Whitley Field on Tuesday, hosting 18th-ranked Lenoir-Rhyne with first pitch of game one scheduled for 3 p.m.
