
Men’s Volleyball fends off late charge, nabs 3-1 victory over Erskine
SALISBURY, N.C. – The Catawba College men's volleyball team stretched its streak of wins to four with a laborious 3-1 triumph over Erskine at Goodman Arena on Tuesday night.
TEAM STATS
- Catawba (10-8) notched its fifth-lowest hitting percentage of the season at .157, but benefited greatly from Erskine's (8-11) offensive challenges as the Flying Fleet hit .129 with 32 attack errors
- The blue and white landed seven aces, a six-match high, with an .882 success rate while Erskine tallied just one ace on an .807 serve percentage
- The potent Catawba blocking corps set a program record with 14.5 total blocks to best the Flying Fleet's mark of 10.5 stops
- Erskine, the nation's No. 1 team in digs per set, prevented 50 kills from landing against Catawba's 42
INDIVIDUAL STATS
- Trevor Phillips led the way on offense with 19 kills while adding two service aces and nine digs
- Eli Zdonek recorded an efficient 13 kills on a team-best .265 hitting percentage, pacing Catawba with three aces
- Wyatt Eastin rose up for a career-high eight blocks followed by Zdonek who recorded six denials
- Kristian Smith registered 34 assists with no bad sets while Nate Seeger chipped in four dimes in relief
- Max Adkisson logged 10 digs and turned in a clean sheet on receive, absorbing 34 serves without an error
