
PREVIEW: Men’s Volleyball takes even record into clash with Mount Olive
SALISBURY, N.C. – The Catawba College men's volleyball team returns to Goodman Arena on Tuesday afternoon for an in-state battle against Mount Olive at 7 p.m.
The Reverse Sweep
- Catawba rallied from facing match point in the third set against Barton last Tuesday, flipping the script with three straight points and winning the next two stanzas in a stunning 3-2 victory
- Eli Zdonek and Trevor Phillips combined for 39 kills as Phillips also supplied nine digs and four service aces
- Cam Reeder shined with a double-double, recording 12 kills and 11 digs to set career highs in both categories
- Jacob Brown led the blocking corps with four stops while Zdonek chipped in three blocks
- Kristian Smith's 55 assists was a season high and Max Adkisson's 14 digs went down as the highest tally of his freshman campaign
Seeger Activated
- Elizabethtown grad transfer Nate Seeger made his first appearance since the season opener with a cameo in the 3-1 loss to Queens on Thursday
- In Catawba's inaugural match against the University of Charleston, Seeger relieved Smith in the third set and collected three assists
- Available for the first time at Goodman Arena, the Keystone State native has accumulated 1,583 assists in his five-year career after leaving Elizabethtown as the Blue Jays' all-time assists leader
Scouting the Trojans
- Mount Olive went 3-2 in January and comes off a home opener triumph over Edward Waters
- Last season, the Trojans posted a 17-10 record with an appearance in the semifinal round of the Conference Carolinas playoffs; UMO was picked third in this year's preseason poll
- Named the CC Player of the Week on Jan. 20, Tate Sandvig is averaging 3.44 kills per set on a .411 hitting percentage
- Junior setter Jackson Lahey leads the country with 10.78 assists per set and earned the league's Specialist of the Week award last week (Jan. 27)
- Matthew Ekberg, who appeared in the last two matches, recorded eight kills, five blocks, four digs and three service aces against Edward Waters
