Porter claims 100m SAC title for Men’s Track and Field at SAC Outdoor Championships

Hickory, N.C. —- Catawba College senior Winfred Porter added to his historic track and field season on Thursday, claiming the South Atlantic Conference title in the 100-meter dash at the SAC Outdoor Championships in Hickory to help Men's Track and Field to a fourth-place finish at the league meet.

 

HOW IT HAPPENED

100-Meter Dash - Preliminaries

- Porter and Darius Turner finished second and fourth, respectively, to qualify for the men's 100m finals with times of 10.44 and 10.49, respectively

- Brendan Henby finished 10th in the preliminaries, just missing the cut for finals with a mark of 10.71

 

100-Meter Dash - Finals

- Porter earned the SAC title in the men's 100m dash, posting a blazing 10.22-second time

- Turner finished right behind him in second, posting a mark of 10.37 seconds

 

200-Meter Dash - Preliminaries

- Miles Stephens finished third in the men's 200m dash prelims to clinch a spot in the final with a mark of 20.99 seconds

- Porter and Turner also turned in top-eight finishes to book a spot in Thursday's final with similar times of 21.21 and 21.25, good for fifth and seventh, respectively

 

200-Meter Dash - Finals

- Turner finished as the SAC runner-up in the men's 200m dash, posting a mark of 21.27

- Porter and Stephens bagged top-six finishes for a great Catawba showing, finishing fourth and sixth, respectively

 

400-Meter Dash - Preliminaries

- Tyler Johnson was the top Catawba finisher in the men's 400m dash, posting a time of 47.76

 

400-Meter Dash - Finals

- Johnson earned a fifth-place finish in the final on Thursday with a mark of 47.63

 

800-Meter Run - Preliminaries

- Tanner Smith finished 12th in the men's 800m preliminaries with a time of 1:54:00

 

1500-Meter Run - Preliminaries

- Catawba posted three qualifiers to the 1500m final – Seth Caudill was the top Catawba finisher in sixth with a time of 3:53.36

- Will Lyons was right behind him in seventh, while Ian Pierce was 12th in the prelims with a mark of 3:55.39

 

1500-Meter Run - Finals

 - Caudill earned a podium finish in the 1500 with a 3:49.96 personal-record time, finishing third overall

- Pierce was ninth, while Lyons followed in 11th, both a shade over four minutes

 

5,000-Meter Run

- Lyons was the top Catawba finisher in the men's 5K, placing 12th with a time of 15:20.62

 

10,000-Meter Run

- Catawba had four runners place inside the top 10 in the men's 10K race

- Stefan Lauchner was the top finisher with a mark of 30:49.04, good for fifth

- James Shue was right behind him in sixth, while Andrew Whitehead and Oussama Ajala were side by side at ninth and 10th

 

Javelin Throw

- Dominick Gentile was the league runner-up in the men's javelin throw, posting a heave of 55.83 meters

 

Triple Jump

- Chris Brown placed sixth in the men's triple jump, reaching 14.59 meters
