
Men’s Track and Field’s Stephens takes 100m dash crown at Charlotte 49er Classic
Charlotte, N.C. —- The Catawba College men's track and field team opened the outdoor portion of its 2024-25 season at the Charlotte 49er Classic on Friday, highlighted by Miles Stephens' victorious 100-meter dash.
HOW IT HAPPENED
100-Meter Dash
- Stephens took home first place in the 100-meter dash with a mark of 10.55
- Darius Turner finished not far behind, placing third with a 10.60 effort
- Freshman Jeremiah Hailstock was Catawba's third finisher in the top 25 with a time of 11.16
400-Meter Dash
- Tyler Johnson earned a top-10 finish in the men's 400-meter dash, placing seventh with a 48.47 run
1500-Meter Run
- Oussama Ajala and Tanner Smith finished less than a minute apart in the men's 1500; Ajala was 17th with a 3:59.44 and Smith followed closely behind in 21st with a 4:00.28
5K Run - Open
- Catawba runners littered the leaderboard in the open 5K with six of the top 15 runners in the event
- Will Lyons was the top finisher with a 14:50.58, with Seth Caudill next at a sixth-place 14:59.16
- Anthony Lecorche and Ian Pierce were back to back at eighth and ninth with a 14:59.46 and 15:02.79, respectively
- Brannon Burns was next at 12th and Michael Martinez followed at 15th
10K Run
- Stefan Lauchner finished as the runner-up in the 10K run with a mark of 30:44.08
- James Shue made it two top-10 finishers for Catawba with an effort of 31:24.01
FIELD
Long Jump
- Chris Brown earned a 20th-place finish in the men's long jump with a mark of 6.58 meters
Javelin
- Dominick Gentile was the top Division II finisher in the javelin throw, finishing 10th overall with a throw of 49.76 meters
