Stephens’ national-best 60m time highlights Track and Field’s season debut at JDL College Invite

Winston-Salem, N.C. —- The Catawba College men's and women's track and field teams opened their 2024-25 campaigns at the JDL College Invite on Sunday afternoon, breaking three school records in the process.

 

HOW IT HAPPENED

60-METER DASH

- Mallory Witherspoon started off the day with a school-record 7.64 and a fourth-place finish in the 60-meter dash

- Miles Stephens and Winfred Porter followed up with a 1-2 finish on the men's side, both breaking the school record with times of 6.67 and 6.71, respectively

- Stephens' time currently ranks as the fastest in the country, while Porter's mark is good for third-fastest in Division II

 

LONG JUMP

- Javi Gomez-Wilson took home the individual title in the long jump with a mark of 7.17 meters

 

TRIPLE JUMP

- Chris Brown picked up another solid showing for the Catawba Indians in the field, reaching 14.04 meters in the triple jump for a fourth-place finish

 

200-METER DASH

- Skylar Southard posted a fifth-place finish in the women's seeded 200-meter dash with a time of 26.11

- Porter earned another top-5 finish later in the meet for the men, recording a fourth-place finish in the seeded 200-meter dash with a time of 22.64

 

400-METER DASH

- Tyler Johnson finished second in the men's seeded 400-meter dash, finishing with a mark of 51.06

- Onii Bivens followed suit with a second–place finish in the women's 400, posting a 1:00.13 with Letsi Burgos not far behind with a fifth-place 1:01.08

 

UP NEXT

- Catawba returns to action in the new year, traveling back to JDL for the Flat is Fast meet on Sunday, Jan. 26
