Catawba Men's Track & Field place sixth at the SAC Outdoor Championships

Hickory, N.C. -- Catawba Men's Track & Field wrapped up the 2024 SAC Outdoor Championships with a sixth-place finish. The Catawba Indians would place three individuals on the podium along with one relay team.

 

FULL SAC CHAMPIONSHIP RESULTS

 

Erick Ramirez was the runner-up in the men's 5000m race. The graduate student ran a time of 14:43.38 to secure the silver medal.

 

Dom Gentile placed third in the men's javelin setting a new school record with a throw of 53.08. Gentile a freshman from Melbourne, Florida, hit a mark that was 12 meters greater than the previous record.

 

The 4x100 meter relay team placed second in the event with a time of 40.51. Winfred Porter, Barja Walter, Brendan Henby, Javi Gomez-Wilson ran the legs for the runner-up squad.

 

Winfred Porter finished in third place in the men's 100m dash with a time of 10.56. Porter would also see the podium a second time on Thursday afternoon as part of the 4x100m team that placed second.

 

Barja Walter finished seventh in the men's 200m dash running a time of 21.69. The senior also joined the 4x100m team that took home the silver medal.

  

Tyler Johnson and Jaylen Currence would go five-six in the 400m finals running a 48.23 and 48.75 respectively.

 

Tanner Smith would bring home a top ten finish in the men's 800 taking home eighth place with time of 1:56.19.

 

Oussama Ajala was Catawba's highest finisher in the men's 10000m. He would place seventh with a time of 31.10.14.

 

Javi Gomez-Wilson would lead Catawba points scoring efforts in jumps after an impressive weekend at the pits. He would place seventh in both the long jump (7.10m) and the triple jump event (14.37m).

 

Seth Drake set a new school record in the men's pole vault clearing a height of 4.22m and placing fourth in the event. Drake, a Salisbury, N.C. native broke a pole-vaulting record earlier this year that has stood since 1972.
