Jones earns Co-Athlete of the Meet as Track and Field caps action at SAC Indoor Championships

Winston-Salem, N.C. – The Catawba College Men's and Women's Track and Field teams wrapped up the second and final day of the South Atlantic Indoor Championships, with the Women's team earning a fourth place finish and the Men's team finishing seventh. Distance runner Mikayla Joneswould win her second event of the weekend, earning herself Women's Outstanding Track Co-Athlete of the Meet honors and finishing as a two-time champion 

 

Sprints & Hurdles  

60M  

- Winfred Porterwas .01 of a second away from earning the win in the men's heat, barely beat out to the top spot by a split second, 6.77 to 6.78. Porter's time of 6.78 was a new Catawba program record, beating out Rashaun Noble's mark of 6.80. Barja Walterrounded out the top three, taking third with a time of 6.86 

200M  

- Efemena Egberi notched a fifth-place finish in the women's heat with a time of 25.52 

- In the men's heat, Walter was the runner-up with a time of 21.88, .18 of a second behind the winning mark  

400M    

- Onii Bivensclaimed sixth place in the women's heat, just being edged out from fifth place by .05 of second in a photo-finish, 59.05 to 59.10 

 

Distance 

Mile  

- Erick Ramirezclaimed fourth place with a time of 4:15.00 in a contested men's heat, .80 of a second behind the third-place mark and .67 of a second ahead of the fifth place time. Ramirez's time was a new program record as well, breaking his own mark of 4:15.62 

- For the women, Charity Davies finished 10th with a time of 5:31.97 

800M 

- Raina Andrewsclaimed fourth place in the women's heat, posting a time of 2:18.73  

3000M  

  • Jones earned her second win of the weekend after taking the crown in the women's 5000m on Saturday, clocking in with a victorious time of 10:02.79 for her second title in as many days. Madi Clay would make it two Catawba runners in the top-three with a third-place effort of 10:05.61, while Sydney Cockerham took 13th with a time of 10:34.85 

  • For the men, Erick Ramirez would earn a sixth-place finish with a time of 8:23.57, .01 of a second faster than the seventh-place time in a tight finish. Oussama Ajala would finish 12th after an 8:3.54 effort, followed by Will Lyons (14th, 8:35.93), Anthony Lecorche (15th, 8:39.19), Tanner Smith (16th, 8:39.31), and Stefan Lauchner (20th, 8:51.74)  

 

 

Jumps & Throws  

Long Jump  

  • Namaurion Koontz would place seventh in the men's competition with a 1.96m effort, with Drew Costello taking 14that 1.76m. Koontz's jump was yet another Catawba record, breaking his previous mark of 1.93m 

Triple Jump  

  • Chris Brown placed eighth after notching a 14.16m effort, with Javier Gomez-Wilson right behind him in ninth with a mark of 14.11m  

Shot Put   

  • Adrian Rudisell finished 19th for the men with a 12.23m effort, while Jacob Scannell took 26thwith a distance of 11.27m  

  • For the women, Carmen Bishop finished 23rd with a mark of 9.68m, with Alyssa Krupa taking 26thwith a distance of 9.24m  

 

Relays  

4x400 Meter Relay  

  • For the women, Catawba's team of Bivens, Sanaia Hill, Andrews, and Cockerham would place sixth after combining for a time of 4:07.54 

  • On the men's side, Catawba's team of Maquenly Crespo, Jordan Grant, Mikell Simpson, and John Shearin IV would place ninth with a time of 3:31.11
