Catawba Track & Field wrap up VertKlasse Meeting

High Point, N.C.—The Catawba Track and Field men's and women's Track & Field teams competed at the 14th annual VertKlasse Meeting hosted by High Point University.

 

Senior Rashaun Noble highlighted the weekend with two top-3 event finishes. In the men's 110m hurdles Noble would bring home second place with a time of 15.01. His second top 3 finish would come in the men's 100m where he finished third place with a time of 10.52.

 

Justin Glaze would bring home seventh place for Catawba in the men's 200m with a time of 21.89.

 

In the men's 400m Sophomore Tyler Johnson finished in third place with a personal best time of 49.43. Teammate Jaylen Currence was just behind with a time of 49.65 for a sixth-place finish to make it two top 10 finishers in the event for Catawba.

 

Junior Chandon Smith finished in eighth place in the men's 400m hurdles with a time of 55.60.

 

Catawba's men's 4x400 relay finished fourth in the event with a time of 3:22.87, good enough for a new season best time in the event.

 

Samantha Payne represented Catawba with a fifth-place finish with a time of 24.89 in the women's 200m. This was a new personal best time for the junior. Gianna Gutierrez finished with a personal best in the women's 400m hurdles with a time of 1:05.58 that landed her in sixth place.

 

Raina Andrews secured a thirteenth-place finish for the women's side if the 400m with a time of 59.73.

 

Mallory Witherspoon came in ninth place in the 100m with a time of 12.28. Freshman Efemena Egberi would finish in fifteenth in the same event.

 

It was a sixth-place finish for Javier Gomez-Wilson in the men's long jump coming in at 7.10m. He would also finish fifteenth in the triple jump with a mark of 13.98.

 

Others Notable Performances

-Catawba women 4x100 relay ran a 48.36 for ninth place.

-Catawba women 4x400 relay ran a 3: 55.46 for a ninth place.

-Skylar Payne ran 1:05.63 in 400m women's hurdles for a thirteenth-place finish.

-Sophomore Mikayla Jones finished with a personal best time of 4:49.12 in the women's 1500m.

-Efemena Egberi finished eleventh in women's long jump 5.63

-Carmen Bishop came in eleventh in the women's Javelin with a throw of 36.91

-In the men's 5000 Freshman James Shue finished in 21st with a personal best time of  15:17.92

-Oussama AJALA finished twenty fourth in the men's 1500m 3:59.54: Branon Burns personal best of 4:01.03 for thirtieth place
