#21 Men’s Tennis sweeps past Emory & Henry in 2025 opener

Salisbury, N.C. —- The 21st-ranked Catawba College men's tennis team kicked off its 2025 spring season at the Johnson Tennis Courts on Tuesday, defeating Emory & Henry University 4-0 in South Atlantic Conference action.

 

HOW IT HAPPENED

DOUBLES

- Ryosuke Inagawa and Sebastian Zabala earned the first win of doubles action in the #2s, winning 6-1

- Catawba's #1 duo of Augustin Mastri and Luca Bergonzi earned the doubles point with a 6-2 victory

- Luca Accomando and Alessandro Valleta were leading 5-3 at the point of clinching

 

SINGLES

- Matri made quick work in #2 singles action, defeating his opponent 6-0, 6-0

- Inagawa was next to earn a point for the Catawba Indians in #5s action with a 6-1, 6-1 win

- Mateo Berne clinched the match for Catawba with a 6-3, 6-4 win in #1s, defeating the top Wasp singles player 6-3, 6-4

- Bergonzi won the first set 6-2 and was trailing 2-4 in the second at #3s at the time of clinch

- Valletta was up 7-5, 4-0 in #4s play

- Zabala neared a victory at 6-3, 5-3 at match's end
