
#25 Men’s Swimming wins five events over Division I Queens
Salisbury, N.C. —- The 25th-ranked Catawba College men's swim team fell in its dual versus perennial power Division I Queens, but took home five individual events in the process along with four NCAA B-cuts and a school record.
HOW IT HAPPENED
1000 Yard Freestyle
- Nazar Herashchenko punched his first of two B-cuts on the night with an individual win in the 1000 Free, posting a 9:24.33
- Fellow freshman Jurek Larys was right behind him with a time of 9:34.02, ahead of all Queens swimmers
200 Yard Freestyle
- Maks Minichowski followed up with an individual win in the 200 Free with a B-cut time of 1:39.16
100 Yard Backstroke
- Freshman Mati Kowalski impressed in the 100 Back, finished second with a time of 50.37
200 Yard Butterfly
- Freshman Lassi Niemi captured another individual win for Catawba in the 200 Fly with a time of 1:51.07
100 Yard Freestyle
- Minichowski scored another B-cut time in the 100 Free with a time of 45.23
200 Yard Backstroke
- Kowalksi doubled down on his impressive 100 Back time with a 1:50.26 time in the 200 Back, also good for second place in the event
500 Yard Freestyle
- Herashchenko put his mark in the Catawba record book early in his career, posting a school-record 4:30.30 in the 500 Free along with the individual win
100 Yard Butterfly
- Niemi nearly added another B-cut time in the 100 Fly, finishing in 48.89, under a second behind the top Queens competitor
200 Yard IM
- Balazs Meszaros finished in a close second in the 200 IM, posting a 1:53.30
400 Yard Freestyle Relay
- Catawba's relay team of Niemi, Minichowski, Juan Diego Celis and Kowalski posted a 3:02.80 in the 400 Free Relay
