
Swimming closes pre-NCAA Championships action at Emory Last Chance
Atlanta, Ga. —- The Catawba College men's and women's swim teams competed in day two of the Emory University Last Chance meet, finishing the meet strong with a series of solid times as they push to book tickets to the NCAA Championships next month.
HOW IT HAPPENED
400 Yard Individual Medley
- Joao Oliveiraopened the day strong for Catawba, earning the win by less than a second with a time of 3:59.06 over the second place mark of 3:59.97 in a contested finish
100 Yard Breaststroke
- Rowan Viles was involved in an even closer finish several events after Oliveira's win, being barely edged out for the win by a whisker, 55.42 to 55.44. Even that was contested, as Viles' second place time was just .02 faster than the third place effort
200 Yard Freestyle Relay Time Trial
- Catawba's team of Marit Reckmann, Alix Henras-Marouf, Brinkley Watson, and Ash Fortin combined for a time of 1:34.71
200 Yard Breaststroke Time Trial
- Gabi Moll was second overall, clocking in at 2:19.02
100 Yard Breaststroke Time Trial
- Moll claimed second place with a time of 1:05.51
1650 Yard Freestyle
- Catawba swimmers took second place in both the women's and men's heats, with Fiona Byrne posting a time of 17:20.77 and Elias Hysing clocking in at 15:46.50, respectively
200 Yard Breaststroke
- Moll would take second place for the second time on the day, touching the wall in the women's heat after 2:19.59
- For the men, Balazs Meszaros would finish fourth with a time of 2:01.72
200 Yard Butterfly
- Rebecca Possenti was in action for the first time, finishing in fifth with a time of 2:07.02
50 Yard Freestyle Time Trial
- Henras-Marouf, who set the Catawba program record in the 50 Yard Freestyle earlier this week at the SAC Championships, wasn't far off from matching her record of 23.35 as she put in a 23.53 second effort
100 Yard Breaststroke Time Trial
- Viles, no stranger to photo-finishes on the day after the 100 Yard Breaststroke, again found himself finishing second in a contested finish. Viles' time of 55.87 was .12 behind the winning effort of 55.75
