
Byrne, Minichowski claims SAC titles in day one of conference championships
Greensboro, N.C. —- Catawba College freshmen Fiona Byrne and Maks Minichowski earned South Atlantic Conference titles on Wednesday evening to highlight Catawba's showing in day one of the SAC Championships at the Greensboro Aquatic Center. Both teams stand second overall after 10 events.
HOW IT HAPPENED
200 YARD MEDLEY RELAY
- The women's team of Diamond Mosley, Hannah Koopmans, Brinkley Watson and Marit Reckmann finished third in the opening event with a time of 1:45.58
- The men's relay team of Isaac Haut, Rowan Viles, Minichowski and Ryan Case also finished third with a time of 1:30.21
1000 YARD FREESTYLE
- Bryne claimed the conference crown in the 1000 with a time of 10:19.88
- Ella Gutenwik rose out of lane 1 to take third at the conference meet with a time of 10:24.53
- Jolina Franke, Rebecca Possenti and Lillie Martin finished 10th, 12th and 13th, respectively
- On the men's side, Elias Hysing was the top finisher in fourth with a time of 9:22.07
- Leon Heiermann was right behind him with a fifth-place finish in 9:30.24
- Lewis Mikesell and Kyle Rock placed 10th and 16th, respectively
200 YARD INDIVIDUAL MEDLEY
- Ash Fortin was the top Catawba Indian in the 200 IM, placing seventh with a time of 2:08.11
- Koopmans, Gabi Moll, Berta Vidal Carnero and Alana Derringer were 12th, 15th, 20th and 23rd, respectively
- Balazs Meszaros claimed silver on the men's side with a time of 1:50.61
- Alejandro Alvarez, Nolan Lacjak, Enrique Rodriguez and Viles rounded out the rest of Catawba's finishers
50 YARD FREESTYLE
- Alix Henras-Marouf placed second in the women's 50 free, finishing in 23.35
- Reckmann and Watson finished right beside each other in fifth and sixth, respectively
- Taylor Wilson, Kenzie Peurifoy, Bridgette Pearson and Mosley also competed in separate heats
- Minichowski came out of lane 2 to take his first SAC title, finishing first in the 50 free with a time of 20.45
- Haut and Case also competed in the championship heat, finishing seventh and eighth, respectively
200 YARD FREESTYLE RELAY
- Catawba's team of Watson, Henras-Marouf, Reckmann and Wilson placed third with a time of 1:35.51
- The men's side of Minichowski, Case, Haut and Meszaros closed the day with a second-place finish in 1:21.78

- Day two of the SAC Championships continues at the Greensboro Aquatic Center on Thursday, prelims start at 10 a.m. and the finals begin at 5 p.m.
