Men's Soccer blanked by sixth-ranked Saints

SALISBURY, N.C. – The Catawba College men's soccer team fell to No. 6 Limestone, 7-0, in South Atlantic Conference action at Frock Field on Sunday afternoon.

 

TEAM STATS

- Catawba (1-2-4, 0-1-2 SAC) attempted 11 shots but none were on target, while Limestone (5-0-1, 3-0 SAC) accumulated 19 deliveries with eight directed toward the net

- The blue and white were whistled for nine fouls and one yellow card compared to the Saints' total of 16 with two cautions

- Limestone won the corner kicks battle by a 9-3 margin against the nation's fourth-best team in the category

- The Catawba Indians used 15 substitutes, their most of the season, while the Saints saw 17 players come off the bench

 

INDIVIDUAL STATS

- Kheynne Ona-Vera and Mate Kenyeres led Catawba with a trio of shots apiece as Kenny Hassler chipped in two

- Salano Birch, Garrett Alban, and Tomas Kelly also added a shot

- Kelly, Thomas Boinet, and Lidor Nachshon made their debuts as Catawba Indians

- Zak Stiffler made one save in 45 minutes of play as Fletcher Harris took over goalkeeping duties for the second half

 

HOW IT HAPPENED

First Half

- After three corner kicks in the opening 11 minutes, the Saints found paydirt on a bullseye from Johan Morel

- 15 seconds later, Mark Radoki was fouled in the box as he launched a high shot to draw a penalty kick that Claudel N'goubou slid into the left side of the twine

- Catawba's deficit widened to three when Radoki scored with help from N'goubou and Stefan Roeb

- Roeb tallied his third assist of the contest in the 31st minute as he and Marcelo Lopez earned helpers on Geraldo Lopes' goal

- Kelly and Hassler had shots get stopped by the Limestone defense as the Saints took a 4-0 advantage to the halftime break

 

Second Half

- Birch managed the first shot of the second stanza, missing wide left, before the ensuing goal kick set up a Limestone goal by Abdoulaye Toure

- Shunsuke Nakamoto got in on the action with a 61st-minute blast assisted by N'goubou

- The Catawba Indians shut down a Moritz Guettel scoring attempt, forcing the Saints to regroup as Lucas Atria directed a cross into the box to N'goubou who slipped in the final goal of the day

- Limestone went on to empty its bench, allowing Catawba to have a 7-1 edge in shots for the last 25 minutes but none got between the posts
