Men's Soccer outshoots USC Aiken in scoreless draw

SALISBURY, N.C. — The Catawba College men's soccer team pounded on the door but could not break through in a 0-0 draw with USC Aiken on Saturday night.

TEAM STATS

- Catawba (0-0-2) sent a blistering 22 shots at the USC Aiken (0-0-2) goal, putting five on net. A suppressed Pacer offense managed just one off-target delivery.

- The blue and white booted 14 corner kicks, their highest total in at least seven seasons, with 11 in the second half alone; USC Aiken had none

- Each side was carded twice as all four cautions were issued in a ten-minute span during the first stanza

- Catawba possessed the ball for two-thirds of the contest for the second consecutive match

INDIVIDUAL STATS

- After recording a brace in the season opener, Sebastian Cerda-Tous let it fly five times with one on-goal shot. Mate Kenyeres had a team-best two shots on net

- Zak Stiffler manned the Catawba net for the entire match with no save opportunities

- Cerda-Tous, Jacopo Suagher, and Jaime Serrano played all 90 minutes

HOW IT HAPPENED

First Half

- USCA got in the way of Catawba's first two shots, seventh-minute attempts from Joe Bennett and Noah Sapsford

- Jose Rabadan provided the night's lone Pacer shot in the 14th minute, sending the shot wide right

- Catawba came up empty on a second shooting flurry toward the end of the period as the Pacer defense deflected shots by Sapsford, Bautista Vecchi-Ramello, and Juan Pablo Nicoletti

Second Half

- The early part of the half featured multiple Catawba corners intertwined with shots, but the Pacers remained solid

- Both sides rotated their lineup on a consistent basis, combining for 18 substitutions

- Kenyeres had promising looks in the 62nd and 67th minutes that USCA keeper Felipe Mattos turned away

- Cerda-Tous launched two shots off corner kicks around the 80th-minute mark, one blocked and the other high

- Rodrigo Albayeros fired a couple of shots in a last-chance, 90th-minute effort but missed, resulting in a scoreless final
