
Lockdown LoPiccolo leads Men’s Lacrosse past LMU, 14-7
SALISBURY, N.C. – The Catawba College men's lacrosse team won by a touchdown in its football-esque 14-7 takedown of Lincoln Memorial on Saturday afternoon at Shuford Stadium.
TEAM STATS
- The Catawba Indians (8-2, 4-2 SAC) recorded 36 shots including 23 on goal, compared to Lincoln Memorial's (2-8, 0-6 SAC) 41 attempts of which 29 were on target
- The blue and white lost the turnover battle 22-16, but managed a 33-31 advantage in ground balls
- Both teams recorded 18 clears while the Railsplitters were more efficient, logging a .947 success rate against Catawba's .720
- The hosts were in the penalty box for 3:30 on seven whistles, successfully killing each penalty, while LMU was flagged once for a 30-second offside
- Catawba boasted a narrow 13-12 edge over the Splitters on the faceoff dot, led by Cael Petroff's 11 wins to claim the program's freshman season record at 123 and counting
- Ben LoPiccolo excelled in the crease with a career-high 22 saves on a .759 save percentage to improve to 2-1; Connor Fitzgibbon took the loss for LMU on a nine-save afternoon
INDIVIDUAL STATS
- Frank Cetrone put each of his three shots on goal into the back of the net to collect his fifth hat trick of the season and remain the only Catawba player to score in every game through 10 tilts
- Michael Lindsey, Jack Hart and Jordan Dash each had a brace in the affair
- Dylan McQuarrie stacked a career-high five ground balls to go with a caused turnover in the midfield
- Petroff tallied four ground balls off the faceoff while Owen Conway and Eric Fruge amassed three apiece
- Conway paced the defense with two takeaways as fellow Bel Air, Md. product Devin Trzeciak, Fruge and Boston Rehrer each chipped in one caused turnover
