NEWBERRY, S.C. – Sluggish offense at the start and finish lines contributed to the Catawba College men's lacrosse team's 12-5 downfall against 20th-ranked Newberry on Saturday afternoon at Setzler Field.
TEAM STATS
- Newberry (7-3, 4-0 SAC) led the shot count 42-29, commanding a 14-4 edge in the first period alone
- Catawba (7-2, 3-2 SAC) recorded its third-highest turnover mark of the year at 17 compared to the Wolves' 11 miscues
- The hosts went a perfect 20-for-20 on the clear against the Catawba Indians' 17 successful clears on the same number of attempts
- Catawba thrived on the power play, converting two of its three opportunities while going 3-for-3 on the penalty kill
- Cael Petroff accounted for all eight of the Catawba Indians' faceoff wins, rivaling the Wolves' three-man committee that prevailed in 13 faceoffs
- Ben LoPiccolo stopped 12 shots in a .500 performance while Ben McMullen collected 12 saves on 17 shots faced for the Wolves
INDIVIDUAL STATS
- Five different Catawba Indians netted goals including Frank Cetrone who poured in a team-high seven shots
- Hunter Clarke and Gabriel Barker scored on their only shots of the affair as Michael Lindsey and Tanner Stout also connected with the twine
- Peyton Turner was tabbed with an assist, extending his team-best mark in the category to 15 dimes on the year
- Boston Rehrer, Eric Fruge and Ben Butterfield each tallied a squad-high two ground balls with one caused turnover
- Midfielders Dylan McQuarrie and Garrett Alban both snagged one takeaway in addition to picking up a ground ball
