
Men’s Lacrosse moves to 2-0 in SAC play with win over MHU
Salisbury, N.C. —- The Catawba College men's lacrosse team improved to its best start to South Atlantic Conference play in five seasons with a 13-7 win over visiting Mars Hill University at Shuford Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
TEAM STATS
- Catawba out-shot Mars Hill 42-35
- The Catawba Indians put 31 shots on target to the Lions' 15
- MHU won 21 of 23 face-offs
- Catawba was 24-for-26 on clears, while Mars Hill was 20-of-23
- The Lions recorded 37 ground balls to 29 for Catawba
INDIVIDUAL LEADERS
- Peyton Turner led the way offensively with three goals and an assist
- Frank Cetrone added two goals and an assist
- Gabriel Barker was the other multi-goal scorer for Catawba with two
- Eli Horton collected a team-high five ground balls
- Dylan Kesselring had a game-high four caused turnovers
HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST QUARTER
- Barker got the scoring started at the 12:22 mark
- Cetrone added another score before the first five minutes
- Bakari Neely, Garrett Simi and Tanner Stout added goals as Catawba raced out to a 5-0 lead near the 5-minute mark
- Mars Hill chipped away at the lead with three goals over the final five minutes of the period
SECOND QUARTER
- The Lions cut their deficit to a single goal at the 11:06 mark
- Payton Leonard stopped the MHU run with a CT and a goal two minutes later
- Barker and Turner added to the Catawba lead with goals off Simi and Cetrone assists to take an 8-4 lead into the halftime break
THIRD QUARTER
- Turner and Jackson Braswell made it a 5-0 Catawba run with scores in the first five minutes of the second half
- Turner scored again before Brian Garcia scored a man-down goal to extend the run to seven unanswered to take a 12-4 advantage
- MHU's Josh McCallion broke the Catawba run with a goal with 25 seconds remaining
FOURTH QUARTER
- Mars Hill scored the next two goals to cut their deficit to 12-7
- Cetrone scored the game's final goal off an assist from Jordan Dash with 7:03 to go

- Catawba looks to continue the hot start to conference play on Wednesday, traveling to Coker for its first road conference game of the season at 4 p.m.
