
Limestone offensive surge leads Saints to win over Men’s Lacrosse
Salisbury, N.C. —- The Catawba College men's lacrosse team fell at home to 14th-ranked Limestone on Wednesday afternoon by a final score of 25-9 at Shuford Stadium in South Atlantic Conference men's lacrosse action.
Keegan Maxwell led Catawba offensively with two goals and an assist, while Jared Hadley added two goals and Frank Cetrone tallied a pair of assists. Nick DiBitetto and Brian Garcia had three ground balls each. Jason Thomfohrde led the Saints with five goals and an assist.
The Saints' Zachary Terry scored the opening goal of the game, but Jordan Dash answered with a goal at the 8:56 mark off a Cetrone assist. After a pair of Limestone goals, Jackson Braswell found the back of the net to cut Catawba's deficit to 3-2. The Saints led 4-2 after 15 minutes.
LU extended their unanswered score streak to three at the start of the second period, taking a 6-2 lead. Tyler Wedick scored for Catawba just seconds later, but Limestone opened up their lead with five straight scores in less than five minutes to take an 11-3 advantage. Catawba chipped away at their deficit with back-to-back goals to end the half from Hunter Clarke and Maxwell.
The Saints scored the first four goals of the second half, leading 15-5 at the 10:47 mark. Maxwell scored Catawba's only goal of the period with just over 10 minutes remaining before Limestone scored two more to take a 17-6 lead with 15 minutes remaining.
The teams combined to score 11 goals in the fourth period alone, as Limestone scored the frame's first three to take a 20-6 lead five minutes in. Then, Catawba's Hadley and Yasir Stroud scored back-to-back goals before the Saints scored another five in a row to take a 25-8 advantage. Hadley scored the game's final goal at the 1:48 mark.
Catawba wraps up regular season action at home on Saturday, hosting Lincoln Memorial on Senior Day. Game time is scheduled for noon.
