
Men’s Golf pockets podium finish with two top-fives at Sherman B. Smith Memorial
HARTWELL, Ga. – The Catawba College men's golf team secured its fourth podium of the season at the Sherman B. Smith Memorial, taking third place with a two-round score of 581 when the tournament concluded Tuesday.
Ilia Antoniadis fired a second-round 69, marking his fifth career round in the 60s, to place T-3rd at 142 (-2) just two shots off the leader. Allan Lockwood tallied a one-under-par 71 in Monday's opening round before supplying a 72 in the final 18, totaling 143 (-1) to pick up a T-5th finish.
Paul Esnault, catching up with a day-two par, and Pranay Kapur each took a share of 17th place at 148 (+4). Justin Nagy notched the second-best round of his college career with a 71 in the second round, finishing T-32nd with a score of 152. Connor Carter rounded out the team with 161 strokes (+17) in the two rounds at Cateechee.
North Georgia bagged the team title at 572 (-4), trailed closely by Lenoir-Rhyne's 573 (-3). The 581 (+5) from Catawba earned a spot on the podium, leading fourth-place Emmanuel and Young Harris by 11 shots. UNG's Maddox Drake used a 68 in the final round to win the individual championship at 140 (-4).
The Catawba Indians are back in action next week on Feb. 24 and 25 at the Oldfield Classic in Okatie, S.C.
