
Men’s Golf leads after first day of Bearcat Spring Invitational
GREENVILLE, S.C. – The Catawba College men's golf team holds a share of the pole position through one day of action at the Bearcat Spring Invitational.
The Catawba Indians recorded a team score of 289 (+1) in the opening round, moving to two-over par following the first nine holes of the second round. Alongside Catawba in the top spot is Lenoir-Rhyne, followed by Coker (+4), Wingate (+5) and Belmont Abbey (+6).
Paul Esnault opened the tournament with the sixth under-par round of his sophomore season, shooting a 70 (-2). An eagle on hole No. 18 placed him in second place after the first round as he enters the final day in T-5th. Ilia Antoniadis, Pranay Kapur and Allan Lockwood each logged a 73 (+1) in round one and currently sit in T-13th place.
Connor Carter stands in the middle of the pack at T-41st following his first-round 75 (+3) and a two-over score on the next nine. Representing Catawba as an individual, Luke Nelson fired a 78 (+6) in the opener and is perched T-62nd.
Holt Allison of Lenoir-Rhyne boasts a two-shot lead in the individual standings, going two-under in the first half of the second round. Newberry's Tom Hull, USC Aiken's Oscar Abrahamsson and Fayetteville State's Allen Terrazas are tied for second place at two-over.
Action wraps up tomorrow in shotgun start fashion at 9:30 a.m.
