
Men's Golf places fifth in McCoy Wright Currahee Collegiate Invitational
TOCCOA, Ga. – A well-rounded performance by the Catawba College men's golf team slotted the blue and white in fifth place at the McCoy Wright Currahee Collegiate Invitational that concluded Tuesday.
Pranay Kapur led the Catawba lineup with a 222 (+6) highlighted by a second-round 73 to place T-17th in the 80-golfer field. One shot behind at 223 (+7) landed Paul Esnault who recorded a consistent 75-74-74 card.
Ilia Antoniadis fired a 70 in the opening 18 holes, going on to total 226 strokes (+10) for a 33rd-place finish. Allan Lockwood elevated six spots using a 74 in the final round to lock up T-34th with a score of 227 (+11). Ryan Masterton rounded out the stable with a 253 (+37), good for 79th in the final standings.
Columbus State and USC Beaufort finished in a first-place tie for the team title at 871 (+7). Shorter (886, +22), Wingate (892, +28), and Catawba (897, +33) filled out the top five. Martin Gruendemann of CSU posted a scorecard of 72-72-70 (214, -2) to claim the individual top prize as Nikolai Holme and Victor Larsson each landed one shot behind to split the runner-up spot.
The Catawba Indians' fall slate is complete as the squad looks ahead to the spring season.
