
Men's Golf completes Monday action at The Trojan
Goldsboro, N.C. – The Catawba College Men's Golf team opened play at The Trojan on Monday, finishing the opening two rounds in sixth place with a score of +22, 598 after getting several quality individual performances at the Walnut Creek Country Club
HOW IT HAPPENED

Paul Esnault led the Catawba side as he ended the first two rounds T-14th with a ledger of +1, 145. Esnault led off with an excellent -1, 71 in an opening round where he sunk two birdies and 15 pars, with just one bogey over the opening 18 holes. His terrific form carried over into the front stretch of the second round, as Esnault tallied three birdies and five pars for a big -2, 34 effort. While he'd run into a rough patch over the back-nine, Esnault would still end the second round in solid position with a +2, 74

Luke Nelson would finish Monday T-26th as he recorded three nine-hole frames of +1, 37 on the way to a +6, 150 over the opening two rounds. Nelson opened the first round with a +3, 39, but improved down the back-stretch with a birdie and six pars for an overall +4, 76 ledger. He was better in the second round on Monday afternoon, holing four pars during the front-nine and adding two more along with five pars over the back-nine for a combined +2, 74 showing

Connor Carter was right alongside Nelson, also finishing Monday T-26th at +6, 150. Carter's rounds were the inverse of Nelson's, as he notched a +2, 74 in the opening round thanks to a pair of birdies and 12 pars as part of two +1, 37 frames. He'd open the second round with a third +1, 37 over the front-nine thanks to a trio of birdies, and added a +3, 39 back stretch for a +4, 76 round overall

Ryan Masterton tallied a +12, 156 on the opening day for a 43rd place start. Masterton opened the day with a solid E, 36 showing on the front-nine in round one, as he sunk a pair of birdies and five pars. However, he'd run into a tough stretch over the back-nine for a +7, 79 overall round. In the second frame, Masterton would improve as he notched three birdies and nine pars for a +5, 77

Justin Nagy finished play on Monday just behind Masterton, T-44th with a score of +13, 157. While Nagy endured a rough front-nine during the opening round, he was strong the rest of the way. First finding his footing with a +3, 39 back-nine in round one that featured a birdie and five pars for a +11, 83 overall ledger, Nagy would carry that form and more into the second frame. His second set of 18 holes featured a birdie and 14 pars, including 11 straight from the 6th hole to the 17th hole for a +2, 74 effort

Hayden Mincey would end the first two rounds T-57th at +22, 166. Mincey's best play came in the form of a pair of +3, 39 frames as he opened the first round with six pars as part of a +12, 84 and closed the second round with a birdie and five pars during the back-nine in a +10, 82 outing
