Men's Golf wraps up T-11 finish at Hargett Memorial

Monroe, N.C. – The Catawba Men's Golf team competed in the third and final round of the Ralph Hargett Memorial Invitational on Tuesday, completing play at the Rolling Hills Country Club with a T-11th final standing and an overall score of 904 

 

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Paul Esnault would end the day T-19th, dropping slightly after putting up a pair of E, 72 rounds on Monday. Esnault would run into trouble on the front-nine of the third round, with a +5, 41, but was able to rebound with his fifth E, 36 set of holes over the back-nine. A pair of birdies and just two bogeys would place Esnault's final score from the third round at +5, 77, part of an overall final score of +5, 221 

  • Ryan Masterton was able to jump 17 spots on Tuesday, climbing to a T-36th final position with an overall score of +10, 226. After a pair of +4, 76 rounds on Monday, Masterton came out and played his best golf in the final round for a +2, 74 result. He would hole a birdie and seven pars for an E, 36 front-nine, and then add another two birdies on the way to a +2, 38 home stretch for a +2, 74 round overall 

  • Connor Carter would also climb the standings into a T-36th finish, also finishing play on Tuesday at +10, 226. Carter's final round of +4, 76 would be his second straight in match play, and featured a birdie and 12 pars. He was particularly solid over the front-nine of the final round, shooting a +1, 37 

  • Luke Nelson slid slightly following the third round, finishing T-58th with a +15, 231 ledger. Nelson started out strong on Tuesday, with two birdies in the first three holes of the front-nine for a +3, 39, but ran into some trouble in over the back stretch for a +8, 80 round to end play 

  • Justin Nagy would finish T-85th with an overall score of +23, 239. Similar to Nelson, Nagy would open the third round with a +3, 39 over the front-nine, but hit difficulties in the back-nine for a final mark of +11, 83 

 

NOTES

  • Esnault would finish play tied for the third-best mark on Par 3s, with an Even score and an average of 3.00. Nelson and Carter would tie for the fifth best mark, with both at +2/3.17 

  • Masterton's 35 pars would be tied for the fifth most among individuals, with Esnault and Carter coming in tied for seventh with 33 each 

  • Esnault's 9 birdies were tied for eighth-most  

  • Nagy's eagle on Monday ensured that Catawba would be one of eight teams in the field to have a player score on during play
