Men's Golf completes action at Bulldog Clash
Pawley's Island, S.C. – The Catawba Men's Golf team wrapped up the third and final round of the Spring Bulldog Clash on Tuesday, finishing 22nd with an overall score of +62, 1,144 after two days of play against a deep and contested field at the Caledonia Golf & Fish Club.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-
Paul Esnault would finish T-67th with a score of +11, 221, shooting a pair of +3, 73 rounds to bookend the tournament with a +5, 75 effort in the second round. Esnault was par-or-better in 14/18 holes in the opening frame and 13/18 in the second, though his three birdies were offset by a double bogey in each of the opening two rounds. While Esnault endured some struggles in round three on Tuesday, three birdies would ensure his second +3 round during play
-
Luke Nelson finished play T-76th with an overall score of +13, 223. Nelson opened play on Monday with a +3, 73 in the opening round, led by a strong opening 12 holes featuring three birdies and just one bogey that would give way to a tough final six holes that included a pair of double bogeys. Similar to Esnault, he would follow that result with a +5, 75, though Nelson's second frame included an eagle on hole eight. In the third and final frame, Nelson was again off to a hot start with three birdies to just two bogeys in the opening 13 holes, only to hit a tough stretch over the final five holes for another +5, 75 round to end play
-
Ryan Masterton would finish T-86th at the conclusion of the third round, finding himself dropping several spots due to a tough outing on Tuesday. Masterton had been mostly steady on Monday, firing in three birdies for a +5, 75 in the opening round before an excellent outing in round two that featured another three birdies to just three bogeys for an E, 70 effort. However, a series of double bogeys would see Masterton record a +10, 80 in the third frame for an overall score of +15, 225
-
Connor Carter would finish T-112th with an overall score of +24, 234. Carter's best golf came in the second round on Monday, where he shot par-or-better in 13/18 holes with a birdie
-
Tanner Frye ended play in 118th with an overall score of +31, 241
NOTES
-
Esnault led Catawba in Pars with 33, while Masterton's eight birdies would prove to be the team-high. Nelson was close behind with seven birdies
-
Nelson was one of 19 players to score a birdie during match play, and the third Catawba player to do so this season
