Brown earns WePlayed Sports SAC Offensive Player of the Week
Rock Hill, S.C. —- Catawba quarterback Preston Brown earned WePlayed Sports South Atlantic Conference Football Offensive Player of the Week honors after his performance in the Catawba Indians' 37-28 win at Shaw on Saturday, the league office announced Monday afternoon. Brown picks up league player of the week honors for the second time in his career.
The signal caller from Charlotte, N.C. was an efficient 24-for-29 (83 percent) for 295 yards passing and four touchdowns with zero interceptions, while rushing for 14 yards on the ground in Catawba's first win of the 2024 season.
Brown set a new career-high for completion percentage in a game in his career, while finding four different touchdown receivers in the win. After the teams traded touchdowns to start the game, Brown's 21-yard pass to Deuce Linder put Catawba back in front. He then found Quece Williams for a four-yard touchdown to tie the ballgame at 21 just before halftime. Scoring strikes to Jordan Mitchell and Mike Geter pushed the Catawba lead to multiple possessions in the second half to keep the Bears at bay and improve to 1-1 on the season.
The SAC All-Piedmont Division quarterback from a season ago now has five career games of 295 yards or more in 13 career starts as a Catawba Indian. Brown's four touchdowns on Saturday was also his most in a game since setting a school record with six touchdown passes in the win over Livingstone in week two of 2023.
Brown, the current passing touchdown leader in the conference, and the Catawba Indians will look to keep the positive momentum moving into SAC play, which starts with a road contest at UVA Wise on Saturday. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m.
