Baseball lands nation-leading five to ABCA All-Region Defensive Team

Greensboro, N.C. —- The Catawba College baseball team posted five of its student-athletes to the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)'s All-Southeast Region Defensive Team, more than any other school in the country, the organization announced Thursday morning.

Ty Hubbard was named the All-Region second baseman, after forming one half of arguably the best defensive middle infield in the country along with fellow All-Region Defensive Team selection and South Rowan graduate in shortstop Nathan Chrismon. Hubbard recorded 133 assists to just three errors while Chrismon logged 146 assists to just five errors at the 6 position, as both recorded a fielding percentage of .980 or better while combining for 32 double plays.

Cole Hales rounded out a star-studded infield defensively with another All-Region Defensive Team selection with 89 assists to just three errors at the hot corner.

Dylan Driver earned another All-Region Defensive Team selection, as the two-time national ABCA Gold Glove award winner had another stellar season in the field, racking up 125 putouts and four outfield assists to a lone error in right field.

Payne Stolsworth was the final All-Region Defensive Team selection for the Catawba Indians at the pitcher position, recording 28 assists to just one error on the season. In an outing against Coker in March, Stolsworth tallied a whopping seven assists from the pitcher spot to no errors.

Catawba as a team led the country with a .984 fielding percentage with 48 double plays, which ranks in the top ten in the country, helping the team hold opponents to less than five runs a game.
