Gouge earns WePlayed Sports SAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week
Rock Hill, S.C. —- Catawba College left-handed pitcher Casey Gouge earned WePlayed Sports South Atlantic Conference Baseball Pitcher of the Week honors, the league office announced Tuesday afternoon.
Gouge, a junior from Salisbury, threw six shutout innings with just two hits allowed and five strikeouts in 11th-ranked Catawba's win over Carson-Newman in a showdown of the top two teams in the SAC standings heading into the weekend.
He allowed a two-out base hit in the first and retired eight batters in a row across the second through fourth innings, only allowing Carson-Newman to reach second base twice. The Eagles went 17 batters between base hits.
Gouge lowered his season ERA to 3.70, earning his fifth victory of the season for a Catawba Indian squad that holds a two-game lead in the SAC with three games left to play.
Catawba returns to action on Tuesday, hosting Georgia College, while Gouge will return to action this weekend at Lincoln Memorial.
