
LMU knocks off #15 Baseball in SAC Tournament winners’ bracket
Salisbury, N.C. —- The 5th-seeded Lincoln Memorial Railsplitters utilized a dominant performance from starting pitcher Eli Edds to knock off the 15th-ranked and top-seeded Catawba College baseball team in South Atlantic Conference baseball tournament action at Newman Park on Saturday afternoon.
TEAM STATISTICS
- Lincoln Memorial out-hit Catawba 9-4
- The Railsplitters had each of the four extra-base hits, all home runs
- LMU had the lone stolen base in the contest
- Edds went the distance, throwing a complete-game shutout allowing four hits and striking out nine; Catawba's staff allowed seven earned runs on nine hits and one walk, striking out eight
INDIVIDUAL LEADERS
- Levi Perrell recorded multiple hits
- Dylan Driver and Cooper Bryson had the other two hits in the contest
- Drew Robertson walked twice
- Casey Gouge pitched a 1-2-3 inning in relief
HOW IT HAPPENED
SECOND INNING
- Lincoln Memorial hit two singles to lead off the second to put runners on the corners
- Sam Mast's three-run homer to center field put the Railsplitters on top early
FOURTH INNING
- Mitch Petzelt's two-out, two-run homer added to the LMU lead in the fourth
FIFTH INNING
- The Railsplitters tacked on another with Carson Boles' solo homer, leading 6-0
EIGHTH INNING
- Cameron Bowen added a homer for good measure with a solo blast in the eighth
UP NEXT
- Catawba returns to Newman Park at 11 a.m. on Sunday, facing Tusculum in an elimination game; the winner will follow with a rematch with LMU
