Beach Volleyball earns split in opening day of SAC Weekend

Salisbury, N.C. —- The Catawba College beach volleyball team earned its first win over an NCAA opponent on Saturday, earning a hard-fought split in two matches on the opening day of the SAC Weekend at the Catawba Beach Courts.

 

Match One | Carson-Newman 4, Catawba 1

HOW IT HAPPENED

- Hayes Smith and Riannel Arevalo continued their unbeaten start to the season with a thrilling 24-22, 21-16 win in #1s action

- Christina Knotts and Morgan Childress earned a second-set win in #2s, but ultimately fell in an epic three-set match

- Sidney Kettelkamp and Brooke Vaughan also earned a second-set win to force a decisive third in #5s play, but fell 15-7 in the third

 

Match Two | Catawba 3, Tusculum 2

HOW IT HAPPENED

- Smith and Arevalo came back from dropping the first set 21-11 to taking the next two to earn the win in #1s play

- Knotts and Brooklyn Calkins did the same, clinching the match in a thrilling 17-15 win in the decisive third set

- Kettelkamp and Vaughan helped secure the win with a 21-19, 18-21, 15-10 three-set epic to give Catawba its first win over Tusculum in program history
