Beach Volleyball continues action at AVCA Championships

Hickory Port, Fla. —- The Catawba College Beach Volleyball was in action on day two of the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Small College Beach Championships in Hickory Port on Saturday, falling in three sets to the Florida Southern Mocs in an early morning matchup to end pool play before being defeated in three sets by the Spring Hill Badgers in the challenge round 

 

HOW IT HAPPENED 

MATCH ONE – Catawba 0, Florida Southern 3 

- Savanna Corrales and Hayes Smith would be defeated on Court No. 1, just being edged out 22-20 in a close opening set by Ashli McKenny and Emma Winford before the Florida Southern pair took the second set for the point 

- Brooklyn Calkins and JJ Quarrels took on Christina Ramazio and Sydney Melcher from the No. 4 position, dropping the first set 21-8 and the second set by a score of 21-12 

- Lauren Shepherd and Claire Vinskus battled against Hailey Carefoot and Jackie Schner on Court No. 5, with the Catawba duo edged out in two sets, 21-11 and 21-10 as the Mocs earned the third and final point  

 

MATCH TWO – Catawba 0, Spring Hill 3 

- Morgan Childress and Christina Knotts would be edged out in a pair of sets on the No. 2 court by Linnea Beger and Alessandra Lane, 21-9 and 21-15 

- Ragan Ball and Katie Willingham took on Jaylyne Bell and Ashlyn Whiteside on the No. 3 court, dropping a two set contest 21-9 and 21-8 

- Calkins and Quarrels were again in action from the No. 4 position, battling against Elizabeth Hardouin and Emily Weinzapfel as the Badgers' duo took the win in two sets, 21-13 and 21-8
