
Beach Volleyball battles Lynchburg on Friday
Salisbury, N.C. —- The Catawba College Beach Volleyball team was in action on Friday against the Lynchburg Hornets in a double-header at the Catawba Beach Courts, falling 4-1 in the first match and 3-2 in the second

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Christina Knotts and Morgan Childress would be just edged out in a thrilling matchup on Court No. 1 against Jordan Palmer and Kailey Keough that went three sets. Knotts and Childress took the first set 21-16 before the duo from Lynchburg would force a third set, 21-18. The final frame would go down to the wire, with the score tied at 16-16 before Palmer and Keough were able to score the final two points for the win
- JJ Quarrels and Kennedy Kimbroplayed out a similarly thrilling three-set affair on Court No. 2 against Amanda Trapp and SJ Yanz. Once again, Quarrels and Kimbro would take the first set, this time 21-19, only for Trapp and Yanz to take the second by a score of 21-15. The visiting pair would pull out a two-point win in the third set on the second straight court, 15-13, for a 2-0 lead
- Ragan Ball and Katie Willingham put Catawba on the board from the No. 3 position, taking down Mady Shirey and Tori Williamson in two sets. Ball and Willingham dominated the first set to the tune of a 21-9 victory, before clutching the point in a back-and-forth 22-20 win in the second
- Megan Halford and Lauren Shepherd would be defeated in two sets on the No. 4 court, 21-16 and 21-13, as Parker Lynch and Lydia Nelson would give Lynchburg their third point and the win
- Brooklyn Calkins and Jada Whittal would also be toppled on Court No. 5, falling in two sets by scores of 21-11 and 21-13 to Laney Burns and Kassie Menard

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Knotts and Childress would avenge their close loss to Palmer and Keough on the No. 1 court in the first game, taking a two-set win to give Catawba the opening point. After earning a close 22-20 victory in the first set, Knotts and Childress left no doubt with a 21-14 win in the second
- Ball and Willingham were in action on the No. 2 court this time, going against Trapp and Yanz in a three-set battle. The Lynchburg pairing took the first set, 21-11, with Ball and Willingham rallying 21-18 to force a third frame. But it would be Trapp and Yanz earing the match win and the point for the Hornets with a 15-11 victory
- Quarrels and Kimbro earned the win for Catawba on the No. 3 court, as they knocked off Shirey and Williamson in three sets. Both teams traded 21-16 victories in the opening two sets, before Quarrels and Kimbrough were able to give Catawba a 2-1 lead as they won the third, 15-13
- Calkins and Whittal, this time on the No. 4 court, were involved in another three set thriller as they took on Burns and Menard. The duo from Lynchburg would roll to a 21-8 win in the first set, only for Calkins and Whittal to bounce back with a 21-18 victory in the second. The decisive third set would be a nail-biter, though in the end Burns and Menard would take a 16-14 win to tie the match at 2-2
- Halford and Shepherd would be defeated by Lynch and Nelson from the No. 5 position as Lynchburg clinched the winning match with a 21-13 first set and a 21-17 second
