Gastonia, N.C. —- The Catawba College beach volleyball team split a pair of matches on Friday afternoon, falling to Richard Bland before defeating host Gaston College in the second match of the twinbill. The Catawba Indians move to 7-10 overall on the season.

Raytchelle Miranda and Christina Knotts claimed their match in the opener against Richard Bland in #1 doubles 21-15, 21-8. Hayes Smith and Ragan Ball earned a win in #2 doubles with a come-from-behind 11-21, 22-20, 15-10 win. Richard Bland swept the remaining three matches to walk away with the team victory.

Catawba bounced back in their second match of the day, winning 3-2 over host Gaston College. Morgan Childress and Kelcie Love took #2 doubles 21-12, 21-9, Devyn Berg and Maggie Marable rolled to a 21-11, 21-10 win in #3 doubles and Sydney Rutledge and Lauren Shepherd clinched the match with a 21-16, 19-21, 15-8 win in #5s. 

Catawba wraps up action in Gastonia on Saturday, facing Sandhills Community College at 2 p.m.
