
Beach Volleyball takes two tight matches at St. Andrew’s
Laurinburg, N.C. —- The Catawba College beach volleyball team stayed perfect on the young 2023 season on Thursday, taking two close contests at St. Andrew's University, 3-2, 3-2. The Catawba Indians improve to 4-0 on the year, while the Knights drop to 1-5 on the season.
The top doubles team of Christina Knotts and Raytchelle Miranda dropped their first set 25-27, but fought back over the next two sets 21-10, 15-6 to take the game. The duos of Kennedy Kimbro and Molly Mather and Katie Willingham and Hayes Smith took their games in the opening match in straight sets to earn the win for Catawba.
The second match was even closer, as Willingham and Smith battled back from a 12-21 loss in their first set to take the number one's game, while Knotts and Miranda held serve in their second game. St. Andrew's took the third and fourth group points, but Catawba held on down the line, as Morgan Childress and Kelcie Love won 21-19, 22-20 to clinch the match and the sweep.
Catawba takes a two-week break before returning to action on Friday, March 3, hosting Spartanburg Methodist for a doubleheader at 1 and 3 p.m.
