
Beach Volleyball sweeps Lynchburg in season opener
Salisbury, N.C. —- The Catawba College beach volleyball team took both matches of a season-opening doubleheader versus Lynchburg University on Tuesday afternoon, 4-1, 4-1, to open up their 2023 campaign. The Catawba Indians improve to 2-0, while the Hornets drop to 0-2 following their first action in program history.
Christina Knotts and Raytchelle Miranda took both matches in the number one pairings 21-18, 21-19 and 21-13, 21-13. Catawba's number three pairings found similar success, as Katie Willingham and Hayes Smith swept their matches 21-12, 21-19 and 21-13, 21-10.
The Catawba Indians' fourth pair of Ragan Ball and Maggie Marable won in a much tighter fashion of 21-16, 22-20 and 22-20, 21-11. The fifth pair provided the most intrigue, as Kennedy Kimbro and Molly Mather swept their first match 21-15, 21-19 before coming from behind to take the second match, 17-21, 21-4, 15-8.
Catawba travels to St. Andrew's on Thursday with a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
