Troy Carlton started at Catawba College in 2019 and has served as the Faculty Athletics Representative since 2022. 

Dr. Carlton holds a B.S. in Sport Management from Elon University and a M.S. and Ph.D. in Parks, Recreation, & Sport Management from North Carolina State University.  While at NC State, Dr. Carlton was the project manager for the NCDHHS Community Transformation Grant from 2013-2015 and the Aspen Institute’s Healthy Sport Index from 2015-2018.  His doctoral dissertation evaluated the effects of practice design and coaching behaviors on the physical activity of high school athletes.  

Dr. Carlton teaches Sport Management courses for both of Catawba’s undergraduate and master’s programs.  Specifically, he specializes in Sport Law and Sport Marketing.  He is also the President of the NC Sport Management Association and is a board member for NC SHAPE. 

Dr. Carlton and his wife, Marella, live in Salisbury.  They have two sons, Sawyer and Holden, and a daughter named Adalyn.
